Creating a collage using Word as a tool.
Collage is an expression of the mind, developing and manipulating creative ideas. My team mate and I brain stormed and devised a plan for teaching the collage lesson effectively. We created a visual piece by printing images through word, gathered the materials and started to work. Here is the outcome of the final piece.

Method/ Procedural Development
INTRODUCTION
· An explanation of what a collage is and how it can be used will be given to students.
· Images of collages and a completed collage will be shown to students.
· Students will be asked to give comments on what they notice about the images and collage piece.
· A demonstration of how different materials can be arranged to create a collage will be given to the students.

BODY
· Students will be given a chance to demonstrate their understanding by creating a collage of their own with the help of team members.
· Students will be divided into four groups with one group of six members, all other groups having five members. Both female students will be in the same group. The students who are 16 will each be placed in a different group.

ACCOMMODATION
OF EXCEPTIONALITIES: The sample images of the collage will be large prints to accommodate for the visually
impaired student. The “clues” sheet will
also use large print. The sample collage will offer a variety of
textures which the student will be
able to feel.
SCAVENGER
HUNT
An
explanation of the game, the setting of groups, and identifying the group members’
goals will be done in the previous class and be reviewed on the day it will be
played. The rules of the game will also
be presented in this manner.
· The groups will be: Team Red, Team Blue, Team Yellow and Team Green.
· Each group will be given an identical set of cutouts (to create the collage), manila paper (the surface on which they will place the collage) and glue (to stick the parts together).
· Each group will be given a list of “clues” as to what their collage will need.
· The “clues” will take the form of a scavenger hunt. The items to be found will be additional materials that each team needs to find that will be hidden around the room.
· A table will be provided with materials that students can use if they cannot follow the clues. These materials can also be used at the students’ preference. The students may have to improvise with items from the materials table; this will push their critical thinking skills.
· Guidance will be given to the students through the entire duration of the “hunt.”
· Each member of each team will be given a role. For example the roles would be: hunter (the person each team sends out to find clues around the classroom), “go for,” (the team member that searches the materials table), the photographer (the student appointed in each group to take photographs of the collage as the team develops it), the monitor (this team member ensures that everyone in the team has equal opportunity to contribute to the design of the collage) and “the sticky” (In the group of six members two persons will fill this role. This will be the person responsible for gluing the parts of the collage together once the group has finalized the design.)
· The photographer of each group will be the only member allowed to use a cell phone if no tablet is available and these photographers will be closely monitored.
· A photograph of the groups’ final collage must be taken.

Evaluation
· The photographer of the group will be responsible for posting the process images and the final collage image to the class Facebook group.
· Each student will be required to add a comment stating what they enjoyed most and what they hated most about the exercise.
· Each student will be asked to bring an unusual material that can be used to create a collage to the following class.

Reflection
The objectives of the lesson were accomplished, students were motivated to participate in the scavenger hunt, making the lesson fun and interesting. The creativity of their work showed that they understood what was taught. Mission accomplished.
The images below were shown to the students, (taken from Google).

Portfolio Reflection
Collage is a very interesting topic to teach, it
helps students to have an open mind for design, to explore and appreciate the resources
in their surroundings that will develop beautiful artistic pieces
.
The scavenger hunt that was designed for students
was to help them search for resources to create their own collage and to be used
in the design.
The overall lesson was a learning experience
especially working with others/groups, collaborating and overall progress of
team work. We were faced with some challenges, decided on a theme and creative
ideas to capture the student’s attention and to better help they understand the
topic being taught. We realised that using word was not a good means of
teaching the topic effectively, we had issues accessing technological resources and the internet. A visual
piece was created by the teachers as a sample aid which allowed the student to touch
and get a better feel of the concept.
This lesson could be improved by allowing the students to be more interactive, think of their own theme to design their own collage and also create a spur of the moment collage demonstration to capture the students interest.
